Currently, when a report is being generated for an external tool, the user sees no indication that this is happening, and so is just left to wonder if the something went wrong and the tool is not actually going to run.
We already have code that shows progress toward exporting a report. We should integrate that with the external tools to make them show progress in the status bar. No need to block the user from continuing work, but they should be able to see what is going on.
