Version confusion Matt Padula  2024-07-30 16:11

I got my IT people to try and install 24.1 using the setup.exe from here, which is labelled as version 24.1.0.199. But after installation, the About says that it is 23.1.0.268.

In addition, I am confused by the labelling of the Unplugged and Administrator versions as they are both labelled as 23.1. Is 24.1 not available as these versions?

Oops.
I have changed the title on the web pages for the "unplugged" and "administrator" installers so that they say "Skyline 24.1".
The URL in the address bar still has "install-64-disconnected_23_1" because I'm not sure what else I would need to update on the website if I were to change that.

How exactly did IT try to install Skyline for you?
Were you getting one of those "Please provide an administrator password" messages when you tried to install Skyline, and did they provide your password and it proceeded?
I would expect that to work, although it might be worth figuring out what it was about the Skyline install process that caused Windows to require an administrator password and maybe we could fix that. It has been our hope that the regular Skyline installer could be used by ordinary users.

If IT logged into your computer as an administrator and then ran setup.exe, that would not work, since Skyline would end up being installed for their user account, not yours.

What happens when you try to install Skyline yourself, either by using the regular installer:
https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/page.view?name=SkylineInstall_64_24-1&submit=false
or the unplugged installer:
https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/page.view?name=install-64-disconnected_23_1

Do you get some sort of error when you try to install Skyline yourself?

What versions of Skyline do you see when you look in the "Programs and features" section in Control Panel?

"If IT logged into your computer as an administrator and then ran setup.exe, that would not work, since Skyline would end up being installed for their user account, not yours."

I think it was this. The way they have restricted things, installers need to be in a certain folder that only IT staff can add to. But once it's there, anyone can use it. So I ran it from the local account and it has now installed the correct version.

And to answer the other question, when I try and use setup.exe in our local account, the PC says I don't have the required privilages. They have locked it down pretty hard.

Sorry for the time wasting.
