Skyline Uninstalled Overnight yadav  2023-08-11 11:51

Hi, not a major issue but a bit odd. I have been using Skyline on my computer for quite some time and when I went to open it the other morning I got a notification that I needed to install the software with the attached message. I could also not find the Skyline application on my computer. I had previously been using version 22.2. Another lab member had the same issue.

Thanks!

Just wanted to add to this thread.

I am observing the same issue with Skyline-daily 23.0.9.187. Whenever I try to open a new Skyline session I get the prompt to install the software.

The odd thing is that this happens despite having a Skyline document opened that I left open overnight and from this window I can still open and work on other documents.

I started having this issue last week.
Sincerely,
Juan C.

Hi All,

Just wanted to chime in that I see the same issue with Skyline-daily 23.0.9.187.
I noticed this issue starting Thursday, August 10th, and it is still ongoing as of today, August 14th.
Let me know if any additional information would be helpful in troubleshooting this issue. Thanks!

Best,
Ellen

We have had to update our code signing certificate this year in a way that caused some compatibility issues because the private key size I used in 2009 is no longer acceptable. I am not positive that this is the cause of your issues, but it might be.

I tried running Skyline-daily on all my computers and some of them had this unexpected behavior where this standard system upgrade message is shown instead of the custom one I implemented years ago. However, when I went ahead with the installation, I always ended up with a working Skyline-daily 23.0.9.187 installation that did not show any further messages when it was started.

If this is not the case for you, then you should consult this page on how to deal with a broken installation:

Sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully, this is a minor speed bump and we will not need to make an update like this again in a decade or more.

Hi again, interesting that this is being interpreted as a "crash". It is just the standard system notification that it wants to install an upgrade. I recommend simply clicking the "Install" button and going ahead with the upgrade. If you want to be extra positive that you don't lose any settings, then follow the instructions on the installation recovery page:

https://skyline.ms/install_recover.url

To save your user.config file.

I think you will need to get through the upgrade for this form to stop showing up. I have no idea why it would suddenly show up on 8/10, when I last touched this installation in early July.

I am hoping to release a new Skyline-daily very soon. If you get through this upgrade, I hope the next one will go as smoothly as usual.

Hi Brendan,

I'll go through the instructions on the installation recovery page and hopefully that fixes it. I'll also keep an eye out for the new Skyline-daily release. Thank you!

Best,
Ellen
