We received a support request asking how to turn on columns, where the answer was to choose a specific type of element in the peptide tree view before bringing up the column picking dialog box.

It seems like a better solution would be to just make all columns always available in the column picker user interface, either by using a tree with checkboxes:

[-] Results
      [x] Replicate
      [x] FileName
      ...
[-] PeptideResults
      [-] PrecursorResults
            [-] TransitionResults
                  [x] RetentionTime
                  [x] Fwhm
                  ...
            [x] BestRetentionTime
            [x] MaxFwhm
            ...
      [x] PeptideRetentionTime
      [x] RatioToStandard

Or perhaps use a combo box to allow selection of the item type:

[ PrecursorResults ][>]

[x] BestRetentionTime
[x] MaxFwhm
...

But add some UI inside the dialog box itself that answers the question, "How do I get to the columns I am interested in?"

----------------------------------------------------

Now that I understand this feature better, I think the combo box is the way to go. I'll get to it at some point.
