Title»export image in .emf format can not be read by Adobe Illustrator

Hi Brendan,

I exported an image from skyline using right click Save Image As... The image was saved in .emf format, as I need to edit the axis line thickness to meet publication standards. However, the exported file does not open in Adobe Illustrator nor is the file recognized by a conversion program converting .emf files to .svg. The only way of opening the .emf file is Paint, but no options for vector graphics saving there.

Skyline version 1.1.1.3021, but I encountered this problem already earlier on other files.

Thank you for looking into this,
Alex.

P.S.: Adobe Illustrator error message: "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error."

Hi Alex,
This may take a while to get resolved, especially since I don't own a copy of Adobe Illustrator.

You might want to consider using the Copy Metafile option on the menu. We routinely paste the result of such a copy into PowerPoint, and then ungroup to adjust specific aspects of the plot, e.g. font. You may also be able to insert the EMF files into PowerPoint.

Hope that helps. Otherwise, getting this fixed for Illustrator may take a while.

Nick, you know the Zed Graph code the best. Any chance you can figure this one out?

Thank you for the Copy Metafile suggestion. This does work for PowerPoint, however, pasting the Metafile into Illustrator gives the same 'unknown error' message.

HAE.

P.S.: we just managed to open the .emf file in Adobe Illustrator on a Mac, save it as .ai, import the .ai file into Windows Illustrator and successfully edit all lines.

Hi Nick,

is there any update on this export filter? In the latest version (1.2.1.3619) I can still not open the .emf file using Adobe Illustrator on a PC, but Adobe Illustrator Mac version can read the file.

Thanks,
Alex.

There is one solution to this problem: Canvas 12 (PC) will read the .emf file exported from skyline.
Alex.

Glad you found a work-around, Alex. It doesn't look like we are making any progress on this.
