I got the following error(see attached), when I try to install skyline daily.
How do I install Newtonsoft.jason in the GAC?
Please help.

I cannot view the image that you attached to this support request. I believe our website might be having trouble with the special characters in the filename. Can you attach the file again with a different name?

newtonsoft.json.dll is included with the Skyline installer. The GAC is a place for .dll files that are shared between applications. Windows should not be looking for that .dll in the GAC because it should be right there with Skyline.

This page might have useful tips for fixing your Skyline installation:

It should not need to be in the GAC (Global Assembly Cache) because it should have gotten installed into the same folder with Skyline.exe. So, Skyline should be able to find a local copy and not need it to be in the GAC.

I guess I would start by finding Skyline.exe on your system and checking that Newtonsoft.json.dll is present in the same folder.

The web page on recovering from a broken installation describes how to find the user.config file in your installation. You should be able to use these instructions and then just search for Skyline.exe or Newtonsoft to file those files.

If worse comes to worse, this page may help in starting from scratch with a brand new clean installation.

Hope this helps get you going again. Thanks for using Skyline-daily.

Thank you. I'll attach the file again with a new name.

I had no problem with the old name. Not sure why Nick did. I encourage you to follow my suggestions.

Let us know how that goes.

Thank you again. But I installed skyline-daily on my computer for the first time. I didn't install it before. So how can I do now? By the way, my windows version is 10.

Find Skyline.exe on your system and determine whether the Newtonsoft.json.dll is in the same folder.

You might also try getting the disconnected Skyline-daily installer which comes in a ZIP file, and unzip that to a location without any extended characters in the path, e.g. C:/skyline and then try running Skyline by double-clicking on Skyline.exe.

Report back what you find, and we may be able to help further.

I searched "skyline.exe" in Windows Explorer but I got nothing. What I downloaded by browser is a setup.exe. I got the error when I double clicked the "setup.exe". I have no idea whether I use a wrong way to find the skyline.exe.
Please help.

First just try grabbing the disconnected installer here:

https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/daily/page.view?name=install-disconnected-64

Download the ZIP file and extract it to the root folder of a disk drive. Then try just double-clicking the Skyline.exe in it.

Don't run the setup.exe, just find Skyline.exe and double-click on it. It should be in a path like:

C:\Skyline-daily-64_4_1_1_11756\Application Files\Skyline-daily_4_1_1_11756

That should work. No other installation required. Does it?

Let's start with that before going any further.

I am also having this problem on Win 10 Pro. I followed all instructions to uninstall all old versions of skyline from here: https://skyline.ms/wiki/home/software/Skyline/page.view?name=tip_recover_install
Despite removing all traces of skyline from my computer - when I download and install the new version of skyline-daily I get the attached error. The standard skyline worked fine. The disconnected skyline also worked ok, however I was reluctant to use it as I'm assuming it will not be able to update itself given it's disconnected.

Yes. In fact, I also get this. It appears that changes to ProteoWizard to support the new Waters UNIFI interface have broken the Skyline-daily installation. We are working on this and hope to have a solution soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for reporting it. Hopefully, we can get it fixed before a lot more people start trying on Monday.

This should now be fixed. Nick fixed all modules to use the latest version 10 Newtonsoft.json.dll

Thanks for reporting this issue.
