AutoQC-conflict in Skyline version tannous  2017-09-20 09:12

Hi,
I am trying to set up AutoQC with Skyline daily. I downloaded AutoQC for daily.
It worked on one computer where I have both daily and regular skyline. When I tried to set up again on a different computer also with both versions, once I ran AutoQC, an error message was telling me that skyline was created with a newer version (which corresponds to daily) than the version that is available (which corresponds to regular), even though everything was created in daily.
Do I have to have only one Skyline version for Auto QC to work? it seemed to be OK to have both when I first tried that on a different computer.
Another question, are the skyline daily updates going to create an issue for the automation process? is it better to set up AutoQC in regular Skyline?
Thanks
Abla

Hi Alba,

Having both versions of Skyline (public release and daily) with AutoQC Loader should not be a problem. Can you please paste the exact error message that you are seeing? Could you also let me know the version of AutoQC Loader and Skyline-daily you are using? The AutoQC Loader version appears in the title bar of the main window. You can get the Skyline-daily version from the Help > About menu.

Thanks!

Hi Vagisha,
I want to point out that the error message appears only if I try to open the skyline template file after AutoQC had finished importing results. However, if you look at the AutoQC log, it appears as if everything proceeded normally.
The error message says:
"Failure opening
The document version 3.72 is newer than the version 3.6 supported by skyline (64 bit) 3.6.0.10493".
The skyline daily version I have is: 3.7.1.11357
The skyline template file I am using for AutoQC has:"Format 3.72, software version"Skyline-daily 3.7.1.11357"
I also checked the public release skyline and it has version 3.6.0.10493 which is the version stated in the error message.
My autoQC daily version: "daily-1.1.0.11134"
Please note also that Panorama never loaded the results.
Thanks
Abla

Hi Vagisha,
Actually, I just checked Panorama and it loaded the results, but it seems to have taken longer time than I thought.
I added new files to the AutoQC folder to watch and panorama updated instantly this time, so the pipeline seems to be working fine.
However the skyline template file is still not opening and giving me error message regarding the version.

Hi Abla,

Am I right in understanding that you see the error message only when you try to open the template document in Skyline? And that there are no errors in the AutoQC Loader log?

How are you opening the file? Are you double-clicking the .sky file? It sounds like the file is being opening in skyline (64 bit) 3.6.0.10493 and not Skyline-daily. It could be that the .sky extension on your computer is associated with the public release of Skyline and not Skyline-daily. Can you please open Skyline-daily first and then try to open the document?

Thanks,
Vagisha

Hi Abla,

Let me know if you were able to open the document in Skyline-daily or not. If not, perhaps we can do a Webex call to try to diagnose the problem.

Thanks,
Vagisha

Hi Vagisha,
Thanks for your reply. I was able to open the skyline template file by going to skyline daily and opening it from there rather than double clicking on the file. So it seems as you mentioned that skyline daily is using public skyline as default for the .sky file although that only happened after I ran autoQC as I am usually able to open skyline daily files by directly clicking on them.

On a another note, do you think that the skyline daily updates message could interrupt autoQC?
Thanks
Abla

The updates message should not happen when Skyline is run through the command-line interface, as AutoQC Loader does. I put in custom update code between 3.6 and 3.7 to better protect against this. Let us know if it happens for some reason that we haven't thought of yet, but a good bit of work has already gone into keeping Skyline from even checking for an update in this case.

Though, it was possible and reported by our collaborators at Duke as recently as 6 months ago.

Thanks for your work to set up AutoQC for your lab.
