Food Allergen Proteomics Research Laboratory Manager

Position Description:
Oversee all aspects of laboratory management in collaboration with faculty principal investigators (PIs), including mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, including safety monitoring and training, experimental design planning, and statistical analysis assistance. Operate and conduct routine maintenance on high-resolution LC-MS/MS instrument and serve as primary manager of coordination with instrument vendor service engineers. Develop and implement standardized and automated protocols for food allergen MS methods and data analysis for internal and external use. Order all materials and supplies, assist students and workers in the development of mass spectrometry protocols needed for their experiments. Maintain laboratory compliance with safety requirements and develop SOP’s. Act as direct contact person with industrial clients (outside funding sources) and research collaborators, in collaboration with project PIs. In addition, conduct research in collaboration with principal investigators on food allergen proteomics, including development and evaluation of quantitative mass spectrometry (MS) methods, characterization and purification of food proteins, and assessment of samples by immunoassay (ELISA, Western blotting, etc.). Research activities include designing experiments, preparing samples and conducting analysis, performing proteomics data analysis, and writing research reports and summaries. Participate in research communication through conference presentations and manuscript drafting.

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science or related field, plus four years relevant laboratory experience utilizing both basic and technical science including experience with mass spectrometry. Project management and/or supervisory experience required. Prioritization, organizational, communication and facilitation skills essential. Record-keeping and computer skills necessary. Must have knowledge of compliance and safety regulations and demonstrated ability to teach others.
