A position is available in Genentech's Discovery Proteomics group, within the department of Microchemistry, Proteomics, Lipidomics and NGS. This individual will serve as a data scientist to develop novel tools for the analysis of Proteomics, Lipidomics and high-throughput Protein Array datasets. The position will work closely with our computational team as well as bench scientists in the department to understand their technology and deliver the best possible working software prototypes. Demonstrated communication, prioritization, organization skills, as well as the ability to be flexible and responsive in a fast-paced environment are abilities that are highly desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of software modules that support the analysis and visual representation of internal datasets and embedding them in configurable computational workflows
  • Development of a relational database to store analyzed datasets along with their annotations
  • Assist in running routine tasks through computational workflows and communicating the outcomes to internal stakeholders

Requirements: Strong candidates for this position will meet most of the following requirements,

  • MS or PhD in bioinformatics or related disciplines is required.
  • Skilled at converting experimental data and biological meta data from a variety of input formats into a relational database (i.e. MySQL) and performing complex queries.
  • High level of programming proficiency with R and Python and good understanding of command line tools in a Linux environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with software development in a team setting and good coding practices
  • Experience with workflow engines, web frameworks and data visualization tools would be considered a tremendous plus

Location: South San Francisco, CA. But the remote work is an option.
