Job Description
Be a part of the legacy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program
Merck Research Laboratories’ Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
What You'll Be Doing:
You'll be helping us build metabolomics capabilities for improving drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. You will join a dynamic bioanalytical group, also work closely with drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) experts and big data modeling scientists in PPDM to study the roles of endogenous molecules (including metabolites, lipids and peptides) in our drug discovery models. The goal is to develop novel predictive approaches based on the flux of endogenous molecules to enable early detection of drug-drug interactions and drug clearance pathways.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Interact frequently with key collaborators and solicit input from bioanalytical and ADME experts to shape study plans. This includes but not limited to:
Design in vitro and in vivo studies on preclinical species using probe drugs to generate hypotheses driven samples.
Generate metabolomics data. Analyze samples using state of the art LC/MS instruments and coordinate with other capability groups within our company or CROs.
Metabolomic data analysis and model building to link endogenous molecules changes responding to probe drugs.
Drive novel hypotheses based on data; conduct new experiments to progress continuously and achieve predictability.
Prepare manuscripts for novel findings
What You Need:
Candidates must currently hold a PhD OR receive a PhD by fall of 2021.
A record of establishments in advancing metabolomics workflow and applications including analytical platform development and biological sample analysis
Excellent big data processing, visualization (including graphical model) skills with proficiency of metabolomics bioinformatic software packages including pathway analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to excel in a team-interactive environment.
Proven record of innovation with publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations in leading scientific conferences (ASMS, Metabolomics, etc.).
It's Great If You Have:
Experiences working with endogenous molecules flux for enzymatic systems
Ability to create novel data visualization methods when existing software doesn’t suffice.
Proven understanding of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics of xenobiotics
